Fort Pownall/Frankfort, Me., land papers, 1766-1783.

Indenture, dated 1766, by which Francis Waldo of Falmouth (now Portland), Me., Isaac and Lucy Winslow of Roxbury, Me., and Thomas and Hannah Flucker of Boston, Mass., heirs of Samuel Waldo, deceased, grant 2/5 parts of a 24,000 acre tract near Fort Pownal to Francis Bernard, Gov. of Mass., and Thomas Goldthwait, of Fort Pownal, conditional upon the settlement of sixty families, laying out of roads, construction of a meeting house, etc. Letter, dated 1774, from Francis Bernard to Thomas Flucker, concerning default of the Frankfort grant made to Francis Bernard and Thomas Goldthwait in 1766 by heirs of Samuel Waldo. Certificate, dated 1783, by the inhabitants of Frankfort, Me., that Francis Bernard and Thomas Goldthwait had failed to meet conditions of the indenture of 1766.
